About the Compass HD (No Batteries inc)
The Golden Compass HD is the heavy-duty version of the original Compass, with a 450 lb weight capacity. It keeps the patented springless articulating chassis and true center-wheel drive design for maneuverability in tight spaces, and Golden lists a 20-inch turning radius.
Fit matters on a heavy-duty chair. Seat sizes go up to 24 inches wide: 18 to 24 inches wide by 18 to 20 inches deep, on a Captain's seat. Seat height has five positions in 0.5-inch steps, and the footrest adjusts for height and angle.
Golden's accessory list for the Compass HD includes swing-away and elevating legrests, a stump support, a footplate extender, cane/crutch, walker and oxygen tank holder kits, and the Pack N Go.
Top speed is 4 mph and range is 12 miles. Ground clearance is 3.5 inches, and the tires are flat-free and non-marking. The battery type Golden specifies is NF22 and each battery weighs 37 lbs. Golden lists the base at 101 lbs and the seat with arms at 51 lbs.
Custom Mobility ships the Compass HD across the lower 48. Call us with your measurements and we will help you choose a seat size.

Common questions
Can I try equipment before buying?
Yes. Come to the showroom in Athens or ask for an in-home evaluation.
Will it fit in my car?
Ask this at the start rather than after delivery. Folding and travel models go in a trunk. A full-size chair needs a vehicle lift or a conversion, and we do those too.
Do you ship outside Georgia?
Yes. Products ship across the lower 48. Installation and service are Georgia.
Do you service what you sell?
Yes, with our own technicians. The person who comes back is from the same company as the person who installed it.
Will you service equipment somebody else installed?
Often, depending on the platform and whether we hold the relationship with that manufacturer. Tell us what you have.
Can I just come to the showroom?
Walk-ins are welcome in Athens, at 315 Whitehead Road. Appointments are better, because it means the right person is there when you arrive.
