About the MPS Monarch Mark 1A Mechanical Hand Controls
MPS Monarch Mark 1A mechanical hand controls let a driver brake and accelerate by hand. On the Right Angle, Push/Rock and Push/Pull versions in this listing, braking and acceleration are applied through mechanical linkage, and on the Brake Only version, braking is achieved through mechanical linkage.
The Monarch Right Angle uses one of the most popular methods of hand control operation in an unobtrusive design: push the handle forward to brake, or press it downward toward your lap to accelerate. Its accelerator linkage is discreetly located inside the dash.
The Push/Rock is a style MPS calls a growing favorite among driving evaluators. Push the upright handle toward the dashboard to brake, or rock it back and downward toward you to accelerate.
The Push/Pull is MPS's most basic design: push forward to brake, pull back to accelerate, with an upright or standard handle. Brake Only is intended for drivers who use the foot pedal for gas but require hand controlled operation of the brakes.
Sharing the car? On the Right Angle and Push/Rock, an accelerator lock-out can be activated when other drivers use the vehicle, to prevent unintended hand control acceleration. In most cases the control can be transferred to your next vehicle by a qualified mobility professional.
MPS says that before driving with any driving aid, it is essential to be evaluated by a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS). MPS was incorporated in 1964, its hand controls are made in the USA, and all MPS products are covered by a 5 year limited warranty. Custom Mobility installs driving controls in Georgia with its own technicians.
How The Work Happens
Five steps. You can stop at any of them, and nothing is charged until you have said yes to a written scope.
You tell us what is difficult
Not what product you think you need. The stairs, the front step, the bath, getting into the car. Working out the product is our job.
A call, not a sales pitchWe come out and measure
On site, at your address, free. We check the space, the power, and the structure, and we talk through how the room actually gets used.
Free, and no obligationYou get it in writing
An itemized scope and a price, with the lead time stated honestly. The price you agree to is the price of the job. Take as long as you like with it.
The price does not moveOur technicians install it
Our own people, not a subcontractor, who stay until everyone who has to operate it can operate it confidently.
Our own crewsWe service it afterward
The company that installed it is the company that maintains it. You are not handed to somebody else once the invoice clears.

Common questions
Do I have to buy a van?
Usually not, and most people assume they do. Hand controls, a lift, or a turning seat solve a great many situations for a fraction of a conversion. Ask before you go vehicle shopping.
Will this work with my vehicle?
That depends on the vehicle and the equipment. We check compatibility before you order anything, which is exactly the step that goes wrong when it is skipped.
Do I need an evaluation before driving aids are installed?
For most adaptive driving equipment, yes. A driver rehabilitation specialist evaluation determines what suits you, and we install to that prescription.
What is a turny seat?
A powered seat base that rotates out of the vehicle and lowers, so someone can sit down outside the door frame and be brought in, instead of transferring across a threshold.
Will my wife still be able to drive the car?
Yes, in almost every case. Hand controls and left foot accelerators are designed so the vehicle drives normally for everybody else, and most are removable.
Will this affect my vehicle warranty?
Properly fitted equipment from established manufacturers does not generally affect it, though we would not ask you to take our word over your dealer's. We will tell you exactly what we are fitting and how.
