About the MPS Accelerator and Brake Pedal Guards
What happens to the original pedals once hand controls are in? MPS Accelerator and Brake Pedal Guards are intended to prevent inadvertent contact with them.
The Accelerator Guard is intended for use in conjunction with hand controls and prevents inadvertent contact with the vehicle's accelerator pedal. The Accelerator & Brake Guard covers both the accelerator and brake pedals, and MPS says it is commonly recommended by Driving Evaluators when Hand Controls are installed.
Both guards have a Quick Release function, which makes removal easy when the guard is not needed by other drivers. In most cases a guard can be transferred to your new vehicle by a qualified mobility professional.
Which guard is right depends on the driver. MPS advises that before attempting to drive with any driving aid, it is essential to be evaluated by a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS), who will determine whether adaptive driving equipment is needed.
MPS was incorporated in 1964, gas and brake guards are among the driving aids it has designed and manufactured, and all MPS products are covered by a 5 year limited warranty. Custom Mobility installs driving controls in Georgia with its own technicians and services them in Georgia.
How The Work Happens
Five steps. You can stop at any of them, and nothing is charged until you have said yes to a written scope.
You tell us what is difficult
Not what product you think you need. The stairs, the front step, the bath, getting into the car. Working out the product is our job.
A call, not a sales pitchWe come out and measure
On site, at your address, free. We check the space, the power, and the structure, and we talk through how the room actually gets used.
Free, and no obligationYou get it in writing
An itemized scope and a price, with the lead time stated honestly. The price you agree to is the price of the job. Take as long as you like with it.
The price does not moveOur technicians install it
Our own people, not a subcontractor, who stay until everyone who has to operate it can operate it confidently.
Our own crewsWe service it afterward
The company that installed it is the company that maintains it. You are not handed to somebody else once the invoice clears.

Common questions
Do I have to buy a van?
Usually not, and most people assume they do. Hand controls, a lift, or a turning seat solve a great many situations for a fraction of a conversion. Ask before you go vehicle shopping.
Will this work with my vehicle?
That depends on the vehicle and the equipment. We check compatibility before you order anything, which is exactly the step that goes wrong when it is skipped.
Do I need an evaluation before driving aids are installed?
For most adaptive driving equipment, yes. A driver rehabilitation specialist evaluation determines what suits you, and we install to that prescription.
What is a turny seat?
A powered seat base that rotates out of the vehicle and lowers, so someone can sit down outside the door frame and be brought in, instead of transferring across a threshold.
Will my wife still be able to drive the car?
Yes, in almost every case. Hand controls and left foot accelerators are designed so the vehicle drives normally for everybody else, and most are removable.
Will this affect my vehicle warranty?
Properly fitted equipment from established manufacturers does not generally affect it, though we would not ask you to take our word over your dealer's. We will tell you exactly what we are fitting and how.
