About the Harmar AL500HD Heavy Duty Universal Power Wheelchair Lift
The Harmar AL500HD heavy duty universal power wheelchair lift is a hitch-mounted platform for people who need more lifting power for their powerchair. Harmar designed the AL500 series to carry virtually all powerchairs without any modifications to your chair during travel, and the HD model raises the capacity to 400 lb, against 350 lb for the standard AL500.
Because a hitch-mounted lift carries the chair on the outer rear of the vehicle, your cargo space is untouched. Lifting and folding are fully powered. On the Stars-N-Stripes aluminum deck, four self-tensioning Q'Straint retractors hold the chair in place.
The AL500HD calls for a Class III or greater hitch. It comes with the AL123HD class III heavy duty hitch adapter, the AL107 hitch post and a license plate mount. If your vehicle has no hitch yet, Harmar notes that one needs to be added. The lift is compatible with minivans, SUVs, trucks and vans, and a swing-away and a MultiView backup camera are available; Harmar asks that you confirm your car's compatibility with your Harmar dealer.

How The Work Happens
Five steps. You can stop at any of them, and nothing is charged until you have said yes to a written scope.
You tell us what is difficult
Not what product you think you need. The stairs, the front step, the bath, getting into the car. Working out the product is our job.
A call, not a sales pitchWe come out and measure
On site, at your address, free. We check the space, the power, and the structure, and we talk through how the room actually gets used.
Free, and no obligationYou get it in writing
An itemized scope and a price, with the lead time stated honestly. The price you agree to is the price of the job. Take as long as you like with it.
The price does not moveOur technicians install it
Our own people, not a subcontractor, who stay until everyone who has to operate it can operate it confidently.
Our own crewsWe service it afterward
The company that installed it is the company that maintains it. You are not handed to somebody else once the invoice clears.

Common questions
Will this work with my vehicle?
That depends on the vehicle and the equipment. We check compatibility before you order anything, which is exactly the step that goes wrong when it is skipped.
Will it fit in my car?
Ask this at the start rather than after delivery. Folding and travel models go in a trunk. A full-size chair needs a vehicle lift or a conversion, and we do those too.
Do I have to buy a van?
Usually not, and most people assume they do. Hand controls, a lift, or a turning seat solve a great many situations for a fraction of a conversion. Ask before you go vehicle shopping.
Will this affect my vehicle warranty?
Properly fitted equipment from established manufacturers does not generally affect it, though we would not ask you to take our word over your dealer's. We will tell you exactly what we are fitting and how.
Do you service what you sell?
Yes, with our own technicians. The person who comes back is from the same company as the person who installed it.
Will you service equipment somebody else installed?
Often, depending on the platform and whether we hold the relationship with that manufacturer. Tell us what you have.
